Woman burnt alive

Oct 13, 2013 women burnt   SIRSA: A man and his mother burnt his wife to death, allegedly for dowry, at Jhiri village in Haryana’s Sirsa district on Friday. Baragurah police booked Mewa Singh and his mother Balwant Kaur for the murder of Manpreet Kaur. No arrest has been made so far. According to a complaint filed by the woman’s brother, Nirmal, he got a call from his sister that Mewa Singh was demanding a car as dowry after five years of marriage. Nirmal claimed that he had expressed his inability to provide a car to Mewa. The woman was brought to the general hospital on Friday night with serious burns, but succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday. Investigating officer Ram Singh said a case was registered against the accused. Jail warden held for possessing opium, bailed out: A warden of Sirsa jail was allegedly caught with 10 grams of opium, which he was trying to pass on to some inmates on Friday. The jail authorities suspended warden Rajesh Kumar after the incident and handed him over to the police. A case was registered against the accused and he was produced before the court, which granted him bail. Sirsa jail deputy superintendent Amit Bhadu, said, “Jail officials checked Rajesh and found a packet of 10 gm opium in his possession. He was caught, suspended and handed over to the police.”
